Official Accounts Questioned in Nine Deaths During US Immigration Operations

At least nine people have died during United States immigration enforcement operations since President Donald Trump returned to office. These fatalities, which include shootings, highway collisions, and a fatal fall, have repeatedly sparked controversy, with official government narratives often challenged by witnesses, family members, and, in some instances, video evidence.

The latest incident occurred this week in Biddeford, Maine. An immigration agent shot and killed a motorist. Authorities stated the driver “weaponized” his vehicle against officers during an attempted arrest. However, eyewitnesses described the car moving slowly in circles, not appearing to threaten officers. The Federal Bureau of Investigation is leading the inquiry.

Days earlier, in Houston, Texas, Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, a Mexican national, died after being shot by an immigration agent. Officials claim he ignored commands and tried to ram an agent. His son, however, told local media his father was looking for workers when shot. Mexico has since requested criminal investigations into its citizens’ deaths in such operations.

Earlier this year, two US citizens died in Minneapolis during immigration operations, sparking widespread concern. Alex Pretti, an intensive care nurse, was shot during a protest. Federal authorities initially called him an armed agitator, but bystander video and witness accounts contradicted this. Renee Good, a legal observer, was also shot by an ICE officer. Officials defended the shooting, citing a threat from her vehicle, but video footage showed her car turning away. These events led to calls for deeper scrutiny of force and transparency.

Other fatalities include the shooting of US citizen Ruben Ray Martinez in South Padre Island, Texas, where official accounts were later challenged by family and claims of contradictory video. In Chicago, Silverio Villegas Gonzalez, a Mexican line cook, was shot by an agent whose claim of serious injuries local police video appeared to dispute. In California, Jaime Alanis died after falling from a roof during a raid. Roberto Carlos Montoya Valdez and Josue Castro Rivera died after being hit by vehicles while fleeing during separate enforcement operations in California and Virginia.
