Government Announces Retakes for Students Affected by Weather Delays

Thousands of students across the country who missed their Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations due to severe weather or other unavoidable issues will be given a chance to retake those subjects. This important announcement was made by Mahdi Amin, Education and Primary Education Adviser to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

The decision follows two days of widespread student protests and road blockades in Dhaka and other districts. Students expressed their frustration and demanded retakes after heavy rains disrupted their ability to sit for exams.

In a Facebook post titled “5 Student-Friendly Initiatives for the Smooth Conduct of HSC and Equivalent Exams,” Mr. Amin, who is also a spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, shared details of the government’s plan. He noted that Wednesday’s exams proceeded peacefully at 2,583 centers nationwide, with the exception of the Chattogram Board. He observed that students participated eagerly as weather conditions significantly improved.

The government has adopted five key measures to address the problems caused by the bad weather. These include continuing exams nationwide, except for the Chattogram Education Board, after talks with various officials, including meteorology experts. This approach prioritized the needs of most candidates.

Local authorities have received instructions to assist students facing travel difficulties or waterlogging. This could mean changing exam centers, delaying exams, or extending examination times in affected areas.

Students who could not attend an exam due to weather or other unavoidable reasons will be allowed to sit for the corresponding postponed examination. For students under the Chattogram Education Board, they will use the same question paper on a new date set by the Ministry of Education.

Additionally, all candidates will receive full marks for two incorrect questions found in the Physics First Paper examination. The individuals responsible for these errors have been temporarily suspended.

Mr. Amin stated that the Prime Minister views the HSC examination as a critical step in developing the country’s future workforce, not just a standard public exam. He confirmed the government’s commitment to holding exams responsibly, ensuring student welfare and continuous education.
