Cricket Legend Tamim Iqbal Takes Helm as Bangladesh Board President

Bangladesh cricket has a new leader. Former national team captain Tamim Iqbal has been appointed president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). This announcement comes after the National Sports Council dissolved the previous board and established an ad hoc committee.

Iqbal’s presidency is for a four-year term. He was elected last month by the BCB board of directors. The International Cricket Council (ICC) officially confirmed his appointment today. This recognition by the sport’s global governing body solidifies his position.

Earlier this month, Iqbal attended an ICC board meeting in Scotland. His presence there signaled his growing influence in international cricket.

The ICC also announced the creation of two new sub-committees. Tamim Iqbal will lead one of them as chair of the Franchise Cricket Committee. This committee includes important figures from other cricket boards. Rudy van Buuren from Cricket Namibia, Devajit Saikia from the BCCI, Richard Gould from the England and Wales Cricket Board, and Todd Greenberg from Cricket Australia will serve alongside him.

Devajit Saikia will chair the new Governance Review Committee. Its members are Mohammed Moosajee of Cricket South Africa and Ross Webber, an independent ICC director.

During the meeting, the ICC also addressed financial matters. It approved a loan of $12.82 million for Cricket West Indies, which has faced financial challenges for a long time.

In other developments, Mauritius became the 111th member of the ICC. Cricket Canada’s suspension remains in place. Sri Lanka Cricket has made progress in changing its constitution. However, the ICC decided that no representative from its board can attend ICC meetings until new elections are held.
