New Vision Crowned: Bangladesh’s Miss World Aims Beyond Beauty

A new era for beauty pageants in Bangladesh began on Saturday evening as Samanzar Sayeed was crowned Miss World Bangladesh 2026. The grand finale, held at the Radisson Blu Dhaka Water Garden, marked a significant shift in the competition’s focus, celebrating not just physical beauty but also intelligence, leadership, and a commitment to social change.

Samanzar Sayeed, a graduate in Biochemistry and Biotechnology with a keen interest in Neuroscience, embodies this new vision. She hopes to research neurological disorders, believing that true beauty comes from knowledge, compassion, and responsibility. Her victory highlights the pageant’s refreshed mission to find an ambassador for positive societal impact.

Swagata Saha was named the first runner-up, and Labiba Manzur secured the second runner-up position in the dazzling event. The competition tested finalists on personality, self-confidence, communication skills, and social awareness, aligning with the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ philosophy. Contestants answered questions chosen by lottery from the judges, demonstrating their presence of mind and ability to express their views.

Azra Mahmood, National Director of Miss World Bangladesh, emphasized this transformation. She stated that under new management, the platform aims to prioritize purpose, leadership, and social responsibility alongside beauty. Mahmood believes a winner should be an ambassador for positive change, not just a titleholder.

Following her win, Samanzar will begin intensive preparation for the international competition. Her training will cover personality development, international presentation skills, and various initiatives under the ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ program.

This year’s global Miss World event is particularly special, marking the organization’s 75th anniversary. The month-long international competition begins on August 9th in Hanoi, Vietnam, featuring cultural exchanges and community service. The grand finale is set for September 5th in Nha Trang, where Samanzar Sayeed will proudly represent Bangladesh on the world stage.

Since Azra Mahmood Talent Camp (AMTC) took over the national franchise in 2025, Miss World Bangladesh has sought to grow beyond a traditional pageant. The organizers hope it will continue to foster leadership, compassion, and meaningful social action.
