Facebook Users in Bangladesh Face Widespread Service Disruptions
Many Facebook users in Bangladesh experienced significant problems accessing the social media platform on Sunday. The outage, which began in the afternoon, largely affected those using desktop computers and web browsers.
Users reported difficulties logging in, viewing their newsfeeds, and using various features. Saiful Samin, a journalist in Dhaka, said he saw an “Account Temporarily Unavailable” message when trying to access Facebook on his desktop around 2:30 PM. Other users received messages explaining that they could not access their accounts due to a site issue, with a promise of a quick resolution.
Downdetector, a website that tracks online service problems, showed a sharp rise in Facebook complaints from Bangladesh. Reports indicated issues with the web version of Facebook, slow loading times, and complete inability to log in for some.
While desktop users faced widespread trouble, many reported fewer problems when using the Facebook mobile app. This difference allowed some users to stay connected on their smartphones and tablets even as their computer access failed.
Meta, the company that owns Facebook, has not yet provided an official statement or explanation for the disruption. This is not the first time Facebook users in Bangladesh have faced such issues. A similar outage occurred last month on the 12th, impacting users in Bangladesh and several other countries. That incident led to login problems, newsfeed issues, and many users being automatically logged out of Messenger. Services eventually returned to normal that evening.
