Government Retires 17 Senior Police Officers Amidst Public Interest Mandate
Seventeen senior police officers have been retired from service by the government, a move announced on Thursday. This decision, made in the public interest, affects officers across various ranks, including three Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs).
The Ministry of Home Affairs’ Public Security Division issued a gazette notification confirming the retirements. Senior Secretary Monzur Morshed Chowdhury signed the order, citing Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018, as the basis for the action.
The group of retired officers includes three DIGs, 12 Additional DIGs, and two Superintendents of Police (SPs). The government stated that this measure is effective immediately.
Among the DIGs retired are Mohammad Abdullahil Baki of the Highway Police, Md Walid Hossain from the Bangladesh Police Academy in Sardah, and Sana Shaminur Rahman of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The list of retired Additional DIGs includes Mohammad Sarwar Hossain and Rebecca Sultana from the CID, along with Bidhan Tripura and Sultana Nazma Hossain of the Tourist Police. Others are AKM Iqbal Hossain from the Police Staff College, Saheli Ferdous of the Armed Police Battalion, and Mohammad Tabarak Ullah from the Bangladesh Police Academy, Sardah.
Hasina Rahman of Police Telecom, Faisal Mahmud from the Central Police Hospital, Kaniz Fatema of Police Headquarters, Jesmin Begum from the Naval Police, and DMP Additional DIG Mosammat Farida Yasmin are also among those retired.
Additionally, two officers holding the rank of SP have been retired: Mohammad Habibur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of the Rangpur Metropolitan Police, and Abdur Rahim Shah Chowdhury, Superintendent of Police of TDS.
The notification assured that all retired officers will receive their due retirement benefits, following the established rules and regulations.
