Mirpur Tragedy: Wall Collapse Kills Two Awaiting TCB Products
Two people died tragically in Mirpur, Dhaka, after a boundary wall collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. Eight others suffered injuries in the incident. They were waiting in a long queue. They wanted to buy essential goods from the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB).
The accident happened around 1:30 PM. An old boundary wall of Mirpur University College suddenly fell down. Many people had gathered near the wall since early morning. They were lining up to purchase TCB products at a subsidized price.
One of the deceased has been identified as Nasima Begum. She was a resident of the Janata Housing area in Mirpur-2. The identity of the second victim remains unknown at this time. Police are working to confirm who this person is.
Police officers quickly responded to the scene. They confirmed the deaths and injuries. The injured individuals were swiftly rescued from the collapsed area. They were then taken to different hospitals for urgent medical treatment. Some victims suffered severe facial injuries. Others sustained serious leg wounds in the sudden collapse.
Officer-in-Charge (OC) Hafizur Rahman of Mirpur Model Police Station spoke to reporters. He confirmed that an old section of the college wall had collapsed unexpectedly. OC Rahman stated that two people who came to buy TCB items lost their lives. The eight injured are currently receiving continuous care in hospitals.
Local sources said that people often wait for hours for TCB products. These affordable goods help many families. This tragic event raises concerns about safety for people waiting in public places. Authorities are now investigating the exact cause of the wall’s collapse.
