Missile Strike Kills Three in Ukraine’s Capital, Injures 15 People
A Russian missile attack killed three people in Kyiv, the capital city of Ukraine, on Saturday morning. Fifteen other people were injured during the strike.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko confirmed the deaths and injuries. He said that 15 people, including two boys aged 13 and 17, were taken to hospitals. One injured person is in serious condition.
Witnesses reported hearing more than a dozen explosions across Kyiv. Residents became trapped inside damaged buildings in the Shevchenkivskyi and Solomyanskyi districts.
Fires broke out in some parts of the city. Warehouses were burning in the Darnytskyi district. Debris from the attack also fell on buildings in Holosiivskyi.
Emergency services are still working at the sites. Rescue teams are continuing their efforts to find and help people.
Russia has increased its attacks on Ukraine’s capital city recently. This is happening because Ukraine faces a shortage of air defense systems. These systems are needed to stop ballistic missiles.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has asked allied countries for more support. He is currently in talks with the United States. Ukraine hopes to get a license to make Patriot interceptor missiles.
US President Donald Trump discussed these talks on Friday. He said that discussions are ongoing between the two countries. However, the United States has not yet agreed to Ukraine’s request.
Mr. Trump mentioned that giving away such advanced technology is a sensitive matter. He stressed the need for careful consideration. He also suggested that the agreement might never happen.
This attack follows other deadly strikes in Ukraine this week. On Thursday, a series of Russian attacks across the country killed eight people. This number included children.
