Dhaka and Delhi Can Resolve Issues Through Talks, Says Indian Envoy
Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi visited senior Bangladeshi leaders on Monday. He stated that democracy naturally involves challenges. Mr. Trivedi believes that all issues between countries can be solved through discussion.
The High Commissioner spoke to journalists in Dhaka. He said that a democratic system will always have problems. However, he stressed that there is no problem that cannot be fixed. He added that solutions will always follow any issues.
Mr. Trivedi emphasized the most important point for both nations. He said that people in Bangladesh and India desire good relations. He made these comments after meeting with Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. The meeting took place at the Secretariat.
When asked, Mr. Trivedi confirmed that both Bangladesh and India have strong democracies. He noted that citizens in both countries want friendship. He expressed hope for positive steps. He said many topics can be discussed when leaders meet.
The High Commissioner mentioned that his meeting with Home Minister Ahmed felt familiar. He said it did not feel like their first discussion. Mr. Trivedi pointed out that even families have problems. He believes all problems can be resolved.
Mr. Trivedi has been in Bangladesh for two months. He shared his experience. He said he has received great warmth, respect, and affection. He noted that both countries are democracies. Their people wish for good ties.
Earlier on Monday, Dinesh Trivedi also met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. This meeting happened at the Prime Minister’s Office. The Prime Minister welcomed Mr. Trivedi.
During their discussion, Mr. Trivedi talked about his first two months in Bangladesh. They also discussed important matters between Bangladesh and India. Bangladesh expects India to speed up the process. This is for the extradition of former prime minister Sheikh Hasina.
