Teacher’s Slap Leads to Child’s Death, India Demands Answers
Authorities in India are investigating the death of a six-year-old boy. The child reportedly collapsed after his teacher slapped him. The incident happened at a school in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh state.
A security camera recorded the event. Local media shared the video widely on Thursday. It shows a female teacher holding the boy. She then slaps him on the face. The child falls to the ground.
Nara Lokesh, Andhra Pradesh’s Minister for Education and IT, spoke about the death. He said legal action will be taken against those responsible. This includes the school management. Minister Lokesh also expressed his deep sadness. He wrote that corporal punishment has no place in schools. He directed a full investigation.
Police are also looking into the boy’s death. Local media named the child as Pranay Tej. Police Inspector Pudi Vara Prasad confirmed that a case has been registered. This happened after the boy’s father filed a written complaint.
Pranay’s father said his son seemed healthy that morning. He told reporters his son even insisted on going to school. Relatives gathered at the hospital. They demanded strict action against the people involved.
Inspector Prasad said the police completed their investigation. They also finished the post-mortem. The boy’s body was given back to his parents. Police are waiting for all reports. These reports will help determine the exact cause of death.
Corporal punishment is officially illegal in India. However, it remains a big problem. A 2018 study found that about 80 percent of poor school children experience it. Teachers often use it as a form of discipline.
Palla Srinivasa Rao is the state president of the Telugu Desam Party. He said the government has acted properly. He mentioned that Minister Lokesh has formed a committee. Action will be taken based on the committee’s report.
