India Cricket Tour of Bangladesh Expected Early Next Year
Cricket fans across Bangladesh have a new reason to be excited. The Indian national cricket team may visit Bangladesh in January next year. This potential series would happen much sooner than originally expected.
Discussions are currently underway regarding this tour. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is talking with the Indian government. An Indian news agency, ANI, reported this development. A source from the BCCI told ANI that the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) asked for a window early next year.
The source added that the India-Bangladesh series is likely to happen in January. The BCB is now actively seeking this specific time. This is a change from earlier plans. The series was first scheduled for August 2025. It was then deferred to September 2026.
In January this year, the BCB announced details of the tour. It stated India would play three One-Day Internationals (ODIs). There would also be three Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is). These matches were planned to take place across Dhaka and Chattogram.
However, the BCCI has not yet made an official announcement about the tour. Relations between the two cricket boards faced some difficulties in the past. One significant issue arose when Kolkata Knight Riders released Bangladeshi all-rounder Mustafizur Rahman from their Indian Premier League (IPL) squad.
The situation became more tense during a past T20 World Cup. At that time, Aminul Islam was leading the BCB. Bangladesh chose not to send its team to the tournament. India and Sri Lanka were co-hosting this major event. Bangladesh had asked for its matches to be played outside India.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) did not agree to Bangladesh’s request. As a result, Scotland replaced Bangladesh in the tournament. This period marked a low point in relations between the two cricket boards.
Recently, ties between the boards have shown signs of improvement. Tamim Iqbal is now the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board. He visited India earlier this month. Reports suggest Mr. Iqbal toured the BCCI Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. His visit signals a possible warming of relations between the two cricketing nations. This brings hope for the upcoming series.
