Iran Guarantees Safe Passage for Bangladesh LNG Carriers
Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi confirmed today that liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers bound for Bangladesh will face no problems. They will pass through the Strait of Hormuz safely. The ambassador gave this assurance to journalists in Dhaka on Wednesday.
Ambassador Jahanabadi spoke after meeting State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir. Their meeting took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He addressed concerns about the Strait, a vital shipping route.
The Iranian ambassador recalled a past incident. He said the Strait of Hormuz was closed before. This happened after the United States carried out strikes against Iran. However, he emphasized that this situation would not affect current shipments to Bangladesh.
He also spoke about a new regional agreement. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye have signed a defence pact. This agreement is called the “Mecca Defence Pact.”
Iran views this pact positively, according to the ambassador. He stated that Tehran is not worried about the agreement. The ambassador added that the pact shows a clear message. Islamic countries must rely on themselves for their security needs.
Ambassador Jahanabadi then discussed Iran’s own military actions during past conflicts. He said Iran had only carried out operations against military bases. These targets belonged to the United States and countries that supported it. Iran expects that Arab countries will remove all US military bases from their soil.
