Real Betis scored the only goal of the match nine minutes before the end. Troy Parrott fired the ball into the net. This happened after Real Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois saved a header from Nelson Deossa. Parrott reacted quickly to score his first goal for Real Betis.
Real Madrid thought they had equalized. Carlos Espi scored with a skillful kick from a Vinicius cross. However, the referee did not allow the goal. There was an offside earlier in the play.
