Three Prisoners From Dhaka Jail Die in Hospital After Falling Ill
Three prisoners from Dhaka Central Jail in Keraniganj died today, Sunday. They passed away while receiving treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Two of them were undertrial prisoners. The third prisoner was already convicted. Their deaths occurred at different times in the morning.
Mr. Abul Bashar was 58 years old. He was an undertrial prisoner. Jail guards brought Mr. Bashar to the hospital’s emergency department. This happened early this morning. He had become very ill at the jail. Doctors examined Mr. Bashar quickly. They declared him dead at 7:25 AM. Mr. Bashar was from Kachua upazila in Chandpur district. He had been detained because of a case under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Mr. Abdul Qayyum was another undertrial prisoner who died. He was 62 years old. Prison authorities told guards to take Mr. Qayyum to the hospital. He arrived at the emergency department this morning. Doctors checked him there. They declared Mr. Qayyum dead at 9:05 AM. He was from Chauddagram upazila in Cumilla district. Mr. Qayyum faced charges in eight separate legal cases.
Mr. Md Shahadat Hossain Liton was a convicted prisoner. He was 52 years old. Mr. Liton was admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital on August 28. He had fallen ill and was undergoing treatment in Ward 502. The doctors declared Mr. Liton dead today around 8:45 AM. He was from Daulatpur in Khulna. Mr. Liton had been convicted in a Speedy Trial Tribunal case. He was also involved in another case filed at Uttara police station.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman confirmed these events. He works at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost. Inspector Rahman said the bodies of all three prisoners are now at the hospital morgue. Post-mortem examinations will be conducted. These examinations will help determine the exact causes of their deaths.
