International Crimes Tribunal Orders Asset Seizure: What Wealth Does Sheikh Hasina Possess?
On November 17, 2025, the International Crimes Tribunal issued a major verdict. It sentenced Sheikh Hasina and former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal to death. The tribunal also ordered that their assets be taken away. This decision came in the July killings case.
Chief Prosecutor Md. Aminul Islam spoke about the process on Monday. He said laws exist for taking over property. Rules also allow for giving money to the victims’ families. However, general laws explain how to do this.
Mr. Islam told journalists he had asked the tribunal judges for clear instructions. He said the asset confiscation would apply to past judgments. This means assets can be seized even for older verdicts. He found no legal problems with this plan.
People are now asking what assets Sheikh Hasina owns that could be confiscated. She submitted an affidavit for the 2024 parliamentary election. This document lists her declared wealth.
In her affidavit, Sheikh Hasina declared assets worth Tk 4.34 crore. She had Tk 28,500 in cash. About Tk 2.39 crore was in banks. She also had Tk 25 lakh in savings certificates and Tk 55 lakh in fixed deposits.
Hasina listed three motor vehicles. One was a gift. She valued the other two at Tk 47.5 lakh. Her gold and other precious metals were worth about Tk 13.25 lakh. Furniture was valued at Tk 7.40 lakh.
Sheikh Hasina declared 15.3 bighas of agricultural land. The purchased parts were worth Tk 6.78 lakh. This land is in Tungipara, Gopalganj, Gazipur, and Rangpur. She also owns a plot in Purbachal, Dhaka, valued at Tk 34.76 lakh.
Hasina and her family also own a country house in Mouchak, Gazipur. Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman first owned this land. Later, Sheikh Hasina and Sheikh Rehana inherited it. They then transferred parts to their children.
Some properties are not owned by Sheikh Hasina directly. The house at 32 Dhanmondi belongs to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust. Sudha Sadan, her residence, is owned by her children, Sajeeb Wazed and Saima Wazed.
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has investigated Hasina’s past declarations. In 2008, the ACC found she declared false information about land ownership. It also filed cases over Purbachal land allocations to her family.
The tribunal’s order for asset confiscation also applies to others. In another case, the court ordered seizing property from former Member of Parliament Saiful Islam. The government must also pay a large sum to the July martyrs’ families.
