Four Prisoners Die in Two Days, Raising Concerns at Dhaka Central Jail
Four prisoners have died within just two days. All four were transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. They came from Dhaka Central Jail located in Keraniganj. This series of deaths has brought concerns about the health and conditions of inmates.
On Monday, one more prisoner passed away. He was identified as Ali Akbar Mondal, aged 67 years. Mr. Mondal fell ill while he was detained at Dhaka Central Jail. He was then quickly transported to the hospital’s emergency department. Doctors at the hospital pronounced him dead shortly after his arrival.
Mr. Mondal’s village home is in Babukhali. This area belongs to the Mohammadpur upazila in Magura district. Details about the specific legal case for which he was being held are not yet known. Authorities have not released this information.
Just the day before, on Sunday, three other prisoners also died. They were also brought to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. These three deaths occurred in a very short timeframe. The doctors observed them between 7:25 AM and 9:05 AM. This means all three passed away within one hour and forty minutes.
The prisoners who died on Sunday were Abul Bashar, 58, Abdul Qayyum, 62, and Md Shahadat Hossain Liton, 52. All three men had arrived at the emergency department that same morning. Hospital sources confirmed that all of them were pronounced dead.
These three individuals, like Mr. Mondal, were also inmates from Dhaka Central Jail. They were brought to the hospital for urgent medical attention. This pattern of many deaths from the same jail is drawing attention.
Inspector Md Habibur Rahman leads the police camp at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. He confirmed the latest death. Inspector Rahman stated that Ali Akbar Mondal’s body has been moved to the DMCH morgue. A post-mortem examination is now scheduled. This examination will help determine the exact cause of his death.
The deaths of four inmates in such quick succession highlight a serious situation. This calls for close attention to the welfare of prisoners.
