Prime Minister’s Tk150 Lunch Offer: A Parliament Surprise
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman made an unexpected gesture on Monday. He invited Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman to lunch. This happened during a serious debate in Parliament. The lunch cost was a modest Tk150.
The parliamentary discussion focused on Bangladesh’s energy crisis. Members talked about ways to prevent power cuts. They aimed to stop factories from closing and protect jobs. The national economy was a major concern.
During the debate, Mr. Rahman praised the Prime Minister’s inexpensive meals. He noted the Prime Minister’s lunch often costs only Tk100 to Tk150. Mr. Rahman shared his admiration for this simple habit.
He admitted he could not afford to eat so cheaply. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman then invited Mr. Rahman to lunch with a gesture. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed also offered, pointing towards the Prime Minister.
Opposition Leader Shafiqur Rahman politely thanked them. However, he chose not to accept the lunch offer alone. He wished to share a meal with all 180 million people of Bangladesh.
Mr. Rahman also spoke positively about the Prime Minister’s personal life. He described Prime Minister Rahman as living a simple life. He said the Prime Minister did not lead a flashy or expensive life.
Despite this praise, Mr. Rahman criticized the Prime Minister’s supporters. He said they did not follow their leader’s simple example. Mr. Rahman observed that their actions often differed greatly from the Prime Minister’s lifestyle.
He emphasized that followers should mirror their leader. However, he noted this was not happening. He saw a clear contrast instead.
Mr. Rahman advised people to be careful when calling someone an “icon.” He said those using such terms should truly follow that person’s example. He also reminded everyone that the Prime Minister, like all people, can make mistakes. People should not agree with everything he says or does.
