Police Guard Madaripur Home After Alleged Attack on Actress Badhon in Italy
Bangladeshi actress Azmeri Haque Badhon was reportedly attacked in Venice, Italy. Police in Bangladesh are now watching the home of a man allegedly involved. Monirul Howladar, 24, from Madaripur, is named in connection with the incident.
Monirul Howladar’s village home is in Khalanikandi, Madaripur Sadar upazila. He was a leader of the banned Chhatra League unit in Dhurail union. Monirul left Bangladesh after the mass uprising in 2024. He traveled to Italy about 18 months ago. He paid 2.8 million Taka to a broker for the journey.
On Tuesday morning, local leaders visited Monirul’s home. They were from the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement and the National Citizen Party. Monirul’s family then locked the house and left. They feared what might happen. Police later came to the scene.
Fariha Rafiq is an Additional Superintendent of Police in Madaripur. She confirmed police went to Monirul’s home on Tuesday. Police also spoke with his family. Ms. Rafiq said the incident happened outside Bangladesh. So, Italian law will apply for any action against Monirul.
She added that no trouble has happened at Monirul’s home. Police are alert to stop anyone from attacking their property. The local union parishad chairman has also been informed. He is helping the police.
Obaidul Howladar is Monirul’s step-brother. He said Monirul went to Italy but did not help his family. Monirul’s mother and brother have debts. Obaidul said Monirul continued political activities abroad. He expressed shame for Monirul’s actions. He asked for Monirul to face justice.
Arian Sayem is a district Chhatra Shakti member secretary. He visited the home with police. He found the house locked and the family gone. Dhurail Union Parishad Chairman Habibur Rahman Howladar also came. He assured that Monirul will face justice. He also strengthened security at the home.
Actress Badhon was in Italy for the 83rd Venice International Film Festival. Her film, “The Difficult Bride,” was screening there. She was staying in Mestre. The attack happened on Monday night. She was at a local park with her brother and his family.
