Prime Minister Tarique Rahman: Gas Supply to Improve This Week, New Energy Plans Underway

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced on Monday that gas supply to industries will soon return to normal. He said supply levels would be restored from Tuesday evening. This follows the quick resolution of a problem at one of the country’s two floating LNG terminals.

The Prime Minister shared this news at a meeting in Bangladesh Secretariat. He spoke with business leaders and media representatives. The discussion focused on the current power and energy situation.

Mr. Rahman explained that an accident at an LNG terminal caused the recent gas shortage. This disruption affected many industries. He confirmed that the issue has now been resolved.

The Prime Minister asked for cooperation from businesses and the media. He urged them to support government efforts. He stressed that stability is vital for Bangladesh’s trade and economy.

State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Aninda Islam Amit presented an overview. He highlighted challenges and future plans for Bangladesh’s energy sector.

Prime Minister Rahman described current energy issues as “inherited problems.” He stated that fixing the entire crisis will take time, more than six months or a year. However, he confirmed that problems have been identified. The government has made plans and started implementing them.

To meet future energy needs, the government plans a third floating LNG terminal. Preparations for this project are almost complete. The Prime Minister expects this terminal to connect to the gas supply system by December 2027.

Mr. Rahman emphasized the importance of a stable energy supply. It is crucial for Bangladesh to achieve its goal of a US$1 trillion economy by 2034.

He reassured everyone that there is no reason to be disappointed. The government has been open about the challenges. It has also clearly explained its plans for resolution.

The Prime Minister asked for continued support. He said successful implementation of these plans will benefit all of Bangladesh.
