Tk 17 Crore Cable Car Crumbles at Chattogram Eco Park

The Aviary and Eco Park in Rangunia, Chattogram, once showcased a modern cable car. This attraction, built at a cost of Tk 170 million, now lies in ruins. Located in the Dakshin Nishchintapur area of Hosnabad Union, the park was meant to be a major draw for visitors. Instead, its most expensive feature is broken and unusable.

Vandals attacked the cable car and looted its equipment in August 2022. This incident left the system severely damaged. For two long years, the cable car has remained out of service. The Forest Department, which manages the park, has been unable to carry out any repairs.

Many parts of the park’s infrastructure are now deteriorating. The lack of regular care and maintenance has caused widespread decay. The cable car, which offered scenic views, is a key example of this neglect. Its non-operation greatly affects the park’s appeal.

Repairing the cable car presents a major challenge. The Conservator of Forests for Chattogram Region confirmed that the work would be extremely costly. The first step involves bringing in a specialized technical team. These experts would need to travel from abroad. They would assess the full extent of the damage.

After their assessment, many specific spare parts would be needed. These essential components are not available locally. They would have to be imported from other countries. However, the entire repair process has stalled. This is primarily due to a severe shortage of funds.

The park’s management faces a difficult situation. Without sufficient money, the necessary steps for repair cannot begin. The Tk 170 million investment currently stands as a monument to neglect. The future of this once promising cable car remains uncertain. It continues to await urgent attention and funding.
