Grameen Bank Honours 280 For Fighting Poverty and Empowering Women

Grameen Bank recently celebrated a significant event. On October 4, the bank honoured 280 people for their outstanding work. These awards went to 240 self-reliant members and 40 staff members.

The awards recognised their strong efforts to reduce poverty. They also highlighted work done to empower women at the local level. Winners were praised for their excellent work and great efficiency.

These ceremonies happened across the country. They marked Grameen Bank’s founding anniversary on October 2. It also celebrated 20 years since the bank won the Nobel Peace Prize.

Zonal Managers presented the awards at all Zonal Offices. Each winner received a special crest and a certificate of honour. They also got a cash award for their dedication.

The bank chose this year’s winners carefully. They used clear performance rules to ensure fairness. These included signing up new members and achieving a 100 percent loan recovery rate.

Other important factors were growing loans and increasing deposits. Good management of center houses was also considered. How members used their loans was important too.

Sarder Akhter Hamed is the Managing Director of Grameen Bank. He congratulated all the winners. He said their strong drive and unique skills help the bank grow.

Mr. Hamed believes this special recognition will make them even better. He said it will also strengthen the bank’s rules and its social foundation. This will help reduce poverty for a long time.

The Grameen Bank Baudouin Prize has a long history. In 1992, the King Baudouin Foundation in Belgium chose Grameen Bank. They recognised the bank’s work in global development.

The prize was officially presented in Brussels in 1993. A special fund was created in 1994 with the prize money. Since 1995, this fund gives out awards every year. One outstanding staff member from each Zone gets it. Also, one self-reliant member from each Area receives the award.
