Five-Day Bank Closure Set for Durga Puja Holidays
Bangladesh will observe five consecutive public holidays for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja. All scheduled banks across the country will close for these five days. This will happen from October 20 to October 24.
The main Durga Puja holidays are from October 20 to October 22. These three days are for Maha Navami, Bijoya Dashami, and an additional holiday. October 20, Tuesday, is a holiday for Maha Navami. October 21, Wednesday, is a public holiday for Bijoya Dashami. A government decision also declared October 22, Thursday, as a holiday.
The following two days, October 23 and October 24, are Friday and Saturday. These are regular weekly holidays. Therefore, banks will remain closed for a total of five days. This period runs from Tuesday, October 20, through Saturday, October 24.
Bangladesh Bank issued a circular last Sunday. This official notice informed all banks about the holiday schedule. It instructed banks to follow these arrangements.
Government offices will have a slightly different schedule. Government employees will also enjoy five consecutive days off. This holiday period is from October 20 to October 24.
However, government offices will open on Saturday, October 17. This Saturday is usually a weekly holiday. Offices will open to make up for the holiday on October 22. This means government workers will work on October 17.
Stock market trading will also happen on October 17. This will ensure market operations adjust for the Puja holidays. All government offices and banks will operate normally on October 17.
The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification about the Puja holidays on October 7. The government holiday calendar already marked October 20 and October 21 as holidays. The government decided on an extra holiday for October 22. This created the three-day Puja holiday period.
