Bangladesh Announces Special BCS to Recruit 5,000 Doctors
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) announced today a special examination. This 51st Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) will recruit 5,000 physicians. The official circular was issued on Thursday, September 24, 2026. This decision aims to fill a severe shortage of doctors in government hospitals.
The government recently decided to hire a large number of doctors. This was to improve medical services across the country. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and the Ministry of Public Administration sent their requests to the PSC.
From the 5,000 positions, 4,700 will be for assistant surgeons or medical officers. The remaining 300 will be for dental surgeons. These new doctors will join cadre posts.
Matiur Rahman, PSC Public Relations Officer, said the commission acted quickly. They completed all necessary administrative work and board meetings. The formalities for this special BCS were finished before the next general BCS circular. This is why it became the 51st BCS, following the rules.
The national budget for 2026-27 strongly supports healthcare. The finance minister highlighted the need to strengthen the health sector. A record 694 billion Taka was set aside for health. This special BCS helps achieve that goal.
The examination process for these doctors will be simpler. Candidates will first take a 200-mark preliminary test. Then, they will have a 100-mark viva examination. This fast-track process will help publish results quickly.
The aim is to post 5,000 new doctors in government hospitals. They will work at the upazila and union levels. This will bring medical services closer to people.
Job seekers looking for general cadre posts now await the 52nd BCS. The PSC has a plan to publish this circular in November 2026. The commission is also preparing to announce the 50th BCS results by November. The 52nd BCS circular is expected around that time.
