Bangladesh Creates History with First Test Win on Australian Soil
Bangladesh’s cricket team achieved a significant milestone this weekend. They won their first-ever Test match on Australian soil. The historic victory happened at Marrara Stadium in Darwin, bringing great joy to many fans.
The stadium hosted many Bangladeshi people living abroad. Some were from Darwin, while others travelled from cities like Sydney and Brisbane. They watched the game with hope and left celebrating this special moment.
Al Mashruk Bhuiyan, a young man studying data science in Australia, shared his happiness. “I have been here for one and a half years,” he said. “I never thought I would feel so connected to my homeland here. We are fortunate to have this chance.” Mashruk called Bangladesh’s success an “extraordinary experience.”
Saruddin, another fan, travelled from Sydney. He had planned to watch for three days. As Bangladesh moved closer to victory, he changed his flight. “We will celebrate all day,” Saruddin said, “then go back to Sydney tonight.”
Jisan, a student in Darwin, also watched the match with friends. He spoke of his pride. “We are proud that Bangladesh is playing so well,” Jisan stated. “This is unexpected. Even the Australians are praising our team.”
The Sadaruddin family, who moved to Darwin in 1999, also attended. They had seen Bangladesh play in Darwin in 2003 and 2008. Sadaruddin said he enjoyed this match very much. His wife added, “Bangladesh and Australia are playing here again after 23 years. We are very happy and proud.”
For many Bangladeshi fans, the match felt like a big family reunion. Some even said it was “another reason to celebrate after Eid.”
However, Australians at the stadium showed clear disappointment. While they politely congratulated Bangladesh, their sadness was visible. This feeling was very clear at Marrara Stadium’s Premium Experience Lounge.
On earlier days of the Test, this lounge was full of former cricketers and officials. It offered food and drinks. But on the last day, the lounge was completely empty. There was no food or refreshments.
An employee explained the reason. People did not buy tickets for the fourth day. They expected the Test match to finish by day three. Australia’s poor performance also meant no new tickets were sold. So, the stadium decided to close the lounge.
Australian cricketers looked sad as they left the field. Some took the team bus, while others drove their own cars. The Bangladesh players, full of happiness, all boarded their team bus together. One player asked for all the photos from the match. This historic victory is a memory they will always cherish.
