Bangladesh Demands India Stop Fugitive Hasina’s ‘Irritating’ Media Interviews
Prime Minister’s Information and Broadcasting Adviser Zahed Ur Rahman expressed strong concern this week. He called recent media interviews by Sheikh Hasina from India “highly unexpected and irritating.” Mr. Rahman spoke to reporters at a weekly press briefing in Dhaka on Tuesday.
The Bangladesh government has already protested these actions to India. Mr. Rahman urged the Indian government to stop Sheikh Hasina from making such statements. He said this is important to keep a good relationship between the two countries.
The government is determined to bring Sheikh Hasina back to Bangladesh. The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) chief prosecutor confirmed she has no more chances to appeal. The government plans to bring her back and carry out her court sentence. Mr. Rahman also asked journalists to question the Indian High Commissioner in Dhaka. He wants India to show a positive sign by stopping Sheikh Hasina’s media access.
During the briefing, Mr. Rahman also spoke about other matters. He strongly condemned the recent attack on actress Azmeri Haque Badhon abroad. He stated that legal action against those involved has already begun. The government will not spare anyone responsible for this incident.
Regarding government job recruitment, changes have been made for grades 11 to 20. The viva-voce marks have increased. This change aims to get more skilled and qualified people into administration. Mr. Rahman said it is not meant to cause any unfair treatment.
He also discussed the purchase of new Boeing aircraft. He clarified that the government will pay for the aircraft over a long period. Payments will not be made all at once. The government may also buy ‘Airbus’ planes from the European Union later.
The adviser mentioned the Floating LNG Terminal (FSRU). He said the previous interim government did not make long-term decisions on energy management. This forced the current government to act quickly. They signed an agreement with China to help reduce the energy crisis.
Finally, Mr. Rahman warned about a possible long-term ‘El Nino’ weather condition worldwide. This could disrupt food production due to climate change effects. However, Bangladesh currently has its largest food stock in history. The government is working with all ministries to prepare for any possible food crisis.
