Bangladesh Government Reshuffles Top Posts, New Secretaries Take Charge
Bangladesh’s government has made significant changes in its top administration. Four new secretaries have been appointed to important ministries and divisions. These decisions were announced today by the Ministry of Public Administration. The appointments involve both promotions and transfers.
Jesmin Nahar now leads the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. She was previously an Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Home Affairs. Md Ziaul Haque has become the Secretary for the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. He served as an Additional Secretary in the same division before this promotion.
Mohammad Saiful Islam has moved to the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. He was previously the Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division. Md Saidur Rahman Khan held this post until July 29. Mr. Khan was then appointed as the new Secretary of the Anti-Corruption Commission.
Another change sees Md. Obaidur Rahman taking charge of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works. He was previously a Secretary attached to the Ministry of Public Administration. Md Nazrul Islam was the outgoing Secretary for Housing and Public Works. He went on post-retirement leave on July 30. Meanwhile, Md Sakhawat Hossain, former Secretary of Primary and Mass Education, is now attached to the Ministry of Public Administration.
More administrative reshuffles are expected soon. The terms of the Cabinet Secretary and the Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Public Administration will end this month. The post of Secretary to the Prime Minister’s Office has been empty since the new government formed. Finance Division Secretary Md. Khairuzzaman Mozumder will also retire in October.
These upcoming changes will create more vacancies in key positions. The government is preparing for new appointments and a redistribution of responsibilities. Officials from the Ministry of Public Administration confirmed these moves. They said high-level government decisions guide these appointments. They only issue orders once a decision is made. Predicting who will fill which role is difficult before the official announcements.
