Bangladesh Unveils Five-Year Plan for Safe Migration

Bangladesh has launched a new National Action Plan today. This plan will make migration safe, orderly, and regular. It covers the years from 2026 to 2030. The International Organisation for Migration (IOM) worked with Bangladesh on this important launch in Dhaka.

The Foreign Ministry and the Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry led the event. These two ministries co-chair the Bangladesh Migration Compact Taskforce. The IOM also provided technical support for the program. The Cabinet approved this National Action Plan on May 21, 2026.

Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Choudhury was the chief guest. State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam chaired the meeting. Other special guests included State Minister Md Nurul Haque and Prime Minister’s adviser Mahdi Amin. Ugochi Daniels from the IOM also attended.

Foreign Secretary Asad Alam Siam spoke at the event. Expatriates’ Welfare Ministry Secretary Md Mokhtar Ahmed also shared his thoughts. They discussed the new plan and Bangladesh’s role in global migration.

Speakers stressed the need for teamwork. Government bodies, international partners, and civil society must work together. The private sector and migrants also have a role. This teamwork will make the National Action Plan successful.

The government is committed to safe migration. It aims to protect the rights and dignity of Bangladeshi migrants. This plan will also help Bangladesh’s national development. Migration should bring positive benefits to all.

The event showcased Bangladesh’s strong commitment. It included new pledges to implement the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration. There were also remarks from civil society. The National Action Plan was officially unveiled.

A video documentary showed Bangladesh’s journey with the Global Compact. An exhibition highlighted achievements and challenges. These displays helped everyone understand the migration goals better.
