Barcelona Sends Strong Message with Five-Goal Thrashing in La Liga Opener
Barcelona began their La Liga title defence with a powerful 5-0 victory against Elche on Sunday. The champions are seeking their third straight league title this season. Raphinha and Fermin Lopez both scored two goals for Barcelona in their opening match.
Newcomer Anthony Gordon made a strong debut, providing two assists. Another new player, Karim Adeyemi, also scored a goal at the Martinez Valero Stadium. Barcelona showed great strength against a weaker Elche team.

Young player Xavi Espart passed to Lopez for his second goal. Lopez had a difficult summer, missing the World Cup due to injury. His two goals sealed a comfortable win for Barcelona. Goalkeeper Joan Garcia kept a clean sheet, making good saves when needed.
