BNP Leader Rizvi Urges Solutions to Energy Crisis, Promotes Girls in Sports
Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, the Acting Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), has asked the opposition to offer solutions for the country’s gas and electricity crisis. He wants them to present alternative plans in Parliament, not just threaten street protests.
Mr. Rizvi said the energy crisis has several causes. He mentioned the war between the US and Iran. He also blamed poor planning by the government that was in power before. Global conflicts have disrupted the energy supply chain, making it hard to import fuel. He pointed to problems with energy transport through the Strait of Hormuz as an example.
Mr. Rizvi made these comments at an event in Dhaka. It was the induction ceremony for the new executive committee of the Bangladesh Dance Artistes Association. He said protesting outside Parliament is normal in a democracy. But the opposition should also give good ideas to solve the crisis.
He warned against intentionally causing problems for the country. He said that a plan must be put forward to end the crisis. Repeating past actions would push the country into more difficulties, he added. Mr. Rizvi also mentioned how cultural performances like songs and dance inspired people during the July uprising.
The BNP leader also spoke at another event about gender equality. He said boys and girls must have equal chances in all areas, especially sports. If not, the country and society will fall behind. Mr. Rizvi said if girls become great athletes, it will bring pride to Bangladesh and inspire women in other jobs.
He noted that the Prime Minister also sees the importance of this issue. The Prime Minister has started the “Notun Kuri Sports” program to help talented young athletes. Mr. Rizvi believes more such sports events are needed in every city and district. He also shared that efforts are being made to build a sports university in Bangladesh.
These remarks about sports were made at the start of an Under-16 girls’ football competition. The Bangladesh Women’s Sports Association organized this event.
