Bomb Blasts Jolt Dhaka: Police Probe Malibagh Explosion
Two crude bombs exploded in Dhaka’s Malibagh area today. Unidentified individuals set off these devices. Local people often call these “cocktails.” The explosions caused no injuries. This was a relief for residents and businesses nearby. The incident happened near the Sohag Paribahan counter. It was also close to the Malibagh Rail Gate. The blasts occurred shortly after Juma prayers concluded.
Md Amirul Islam is the Officer-in-Charge of Shahjahanpur police station. He provided details about the incident. Mr. Islam said the crude bombs were thrown from the flyover above. This happened immediately after the Friday prayers ended. Police officers are now actively working to find out who was behind these explosions. They are carefully checking security camera footage. This footage comes from the entrance to the flyover. It is a key piece of evidence to identify those involved.
This event is not isolated in Dhaka. The city has recently experienced other similar incidents. Last Tuesday, the International Crimes Tribunal-2 announced a significant verdict. The tribunal sentenced seven individuals to death. This was for their involvement in crimes against humanity. These serious crimes were committed during the July mass uprising.
A few hours after this tribunal verdict was made public, another crude bomb exploded. This blast happened directly in front of the Supreme Court’s main gate. Later on the same night, three more bombs exploded in quick succession. These explosions took place on the busy campus of Dhaka University. The repeated nature of these incidents is a concern.
The police have launched separate investigations into each of these incidents across the city. They are looking for any connections or patterns between them. Authorities are focused on maintaining public order and safety. They want to ensure the security of all citizens in Dhaka. The police have requested the public to stay vigilant. They ask people to report anything suspicious to law enforcement officials promptly. These ongoing investigations aim to identify the culprits and bring them to justice. Ensuring peace in the capital city remains a top priority.
