Class 11 admissions for the upcoming academic year are set to open on September 15. Students will apply online without an admission test. Their SSC exam results will determine entry into colleges and madrasas across Bangladesh. The admission process is expected to finish by November 10. Classes are scheduled to begin shortly after, on November 12.
Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board, confirmed this draft schedule. The proposed timeline will be sent to the Ministry of Education for final approval. The admission process will begin as planned if the ministry approves the schedule.
This year, 18,29,485 students took the SSC and equivalent examinations. Results were published on August 10. About 11,38,877 students passed these exams. However, nearly 7,00,000 students did not pass.
There are around 2.5 million seats available for Class 11 admission nationwide. Last year, 41.3 percent of these seats remained empty. This year’s pass rate was lower. Experts now expect an even larger number of seats to be vacant. Around 1.36 million Class 11 seats may remain empty.
Despite many vacant seats, securing a spot in top colleges remains difficult. More than 116,000 students achieved a GPA-5 this year. Many high-achieving students may not get into their preferred institutions. This is because better colleges have fewer available seats.
The admission system requires students to apply online. They must list a minimum of five and a maximum of 10 colleges. These choices are made in order of preference. Students are then chosen for admission based on their results and preferences. Any applicable quotas are also considered.
This online system is used for most colleges and madrasas. Admissions to institutions under the Technical Education Board follow a different process. A few specific colleges, such as Notre Dame College in Dhaka, also have separate admission rules. The Dhaka Education Board manages this online admission system. They receive technical help from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
