Excitement Grows: Brazil Considers Playing Football in Bangladesh
Football fans across Bangladesh are filled with hope and excitement. A five-member Brazilian delegation arrived in Dhaka on Sunday. They came directly from the airport. Their visit strongly suggests a major and historic football event could happen soon in the capital.
The Brazilian national football team wants to play a friendly match in Dhaka. They aim to play against Bangladesh. This highly anticipated match would take place after the FIFA ASEAN Cup. A responsible source from the Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) shared this exciting information with local media.
Brazil has suggested two possible dates for the game: 5 or 6 October. The five-time world champions plan to bring a large group of about 90 people. This significant delegation would travel to Dhaka specifically for the friendly match. Such a visit would be a landmark moment for Bangladeshi football.
The Brazilian delegation spent Sunday inspecting key football facilities. They thoroughly checked the National Stadium, looking at the pitch, dressing rooms, and media box. Later, they also visited the modern Bashundhara Kings Arena. In the evening, the delegates held a meeting with BFF President Tabith Awal to discuss the proposal.
The Bangladesh national team faces a very busy schedule. The FIFA ASEAN Cup final will be held in Indonesia on 3 October. Bangladesh is scheduled to play three group-stage matches in that same tournament. Because of the team’s packed schedule, the BFF has not yet given a final answer to Brazil’s proposal.
The Brazilian delegation was also in Dhaka to prepare for another upcoming tour. They will soon travel to India. Brazil will play a friendly match against India’s national team in Kolkata. This match is scheduled for 3 October, the same day as the ASEAN Cup final.
India had previously withdrawn from the FIFA ASEAN Cup. They made this decision mainly to accommodate their friendly match against Brazil. Following India’s withdrawal, FIFA then extended an invitation to Bangladesh. This invitation allowed Bangladesh to take India’s place in the tournament.
Brazil’s national football team has never visited Bangladesh before. This makes the current possibility even more special for local fans. However, Bangladeshi football fans have seen other global stars. Lionel Messi’s Argentina played a friendly match in Dhaka against Nigeria. That historic game took place at the National Stadium on 6 September 2011. The potential arrival of Brazil now is creating immense excitement among football lovers.
