Father’s Heartfelt Plea for Justice After Son’s Tragic Death in Cumilla
A thirteen-year-old boy, Ishayat Shahriar Apratim, was buried in Cumilla on Sunday. This followed two emotional funeral prayers. His father, KM Firoz Shahriar, asked for justice for his son’s murder. He spoke to hundreds of mourners.
The first funeral prayer took place at Comilla University’s central field. It began around 10 AM on Sunday. Apratim’s body lay on a stretcher before the crowd. Teachers, students, officers, and university employees were present. Many other people also attended this sad event.
After the first prayer, Apratim’s body was moved. It was taken to the Gondhomoti Eidgah ground in Kotbari. A second funeral prayer was held there at 11 AM. Apratim’s classmates, teachers, relatives, and community members took part. Following this, Apratim was buried in a local graveyard. This graveyard is in the Gondhomoti area.
Before the first funeral, Firoz Shahriar spoke to the media. He demanded a fair trial for his son’s murder. He stated his trust in the current legal system. He hoped this trust would not be broken. He believed that fair justice would be served.
At the second funeral prayer, Firoz Shahriar shared more personal words. He said his son came to this area at age two. Apratim’s mother works as a university teacher. Firoz Shahriar explained that Apratim grew up among the community members. He received their love and ate food at their homes. The father said this was why he was burying Apratim close to them.
He also spoke about his deep sorrow. “May no one else have to lose a child like I did,” he said. He described the pain of a father carrying his child’s body.
Apratim had gone missing last Friday afternoon. He left his home and did not return. Police found his body about 22 hours later. The discovery was made in the jungle area of the Lalmai hills. This location is near Sananda village, close to Comilla University.
