Five Carriages Derail in Mymensingh, Dhaka-Mymensingh Train Services Halted

A Dhaka-bound Jamalpur Commuter train derailed this morning, Friday. Five carriages of the train, including its power car, came off the tracks. The accident happened near Gafargaon in the Mymensingh district. This serious incident has caused a temporary halt to all train services on the important Dhaka–Mymensingh route. Thousands of passengers depend on this railway line for their daily commutes and longer journeys.

The derailment took place around 9:20 am. It occurred specifically at the Shibganj Road level-crossing area. This location is situated very close to the main Gafargaon railway station. The Jamalpur Commuter train was travelling from Jamalpur station and heading towards the capital city of Dhaka. It was just a short distance from entering Gafargaon station when the carriages left the railway line.

Akhtar Hossain, the officer-in-charge of Mymensingh Railway Police Station, provided details about the incident. He confirmed to news reporters the time and location of the derailment. Police officials are now actively present at the site to manage the situation and ensure safety.

Arrangements are currently underway to send a special relief train to the accident scene. This relief train will carry essential equipment and skilled workers. Their main task will be to help with the recovery operation.

Once the relief train arrives, work will begin immediately. Crews will first focus on removing the five derailed carriages from the tracks. After the carriages are safely moved, workers will then start repairing any damage to the railway line. The officer-in-charge estimated that train services would likely return to normal in about four to five hours. This timeline is expected to begin after the entire recovery process is successfully completed.

Passengers who had planned to travel on the Dhaka-Mymensingh railway line today should prepare for significant delays. Authorities are working quickly and carefully to clear the line and restore regular train schedules as soon as possible. Safety remains the top priority during these operations.
