Forecasters Predict Decreased Rainfall Across Bangladesh

Bangladesh is expected to see a gradual reduction in rainfall intensity starting tomorrow afternoon, Tuesday, according to the Meteorological Department. This comes after several days of continuous heavy rains across the country.

Meteorologists have issued warnings of heavy to very heavy rain for the next 24 hours across six divisions. However, the forecast indicates a shift, with rainfall amounts likely to decrease in regions such as Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram, and Dhaka divisions. The sky over Dhaka, for instance, began to clear significantly after 2 PM today.

Muhammad Abul Kalam Mallik, a meteorologist, explained that while the intensity will lessen, rain will not stop entirely. He stated that the “very heavy rain” currently experienced will reduce in volume, but short spells of rain will still occur.

Specifically, the intensity of rain is predicted to decrease in Khulna and Sylhet divisions from tomorrow. Other areas like Madaripur and Faridpur in Dhaka division, as well as parts of Barishal and Chattogram divisions, will also experience less intense rainfall.

Dhaka has recorded a significant 110 millimeters of rain over a 27-hour period, from 6 AM on Sunday to 9 AM today. Tomorrow, while some rain is still expected in Dhaka, its intensity will be lower. Residents might even see the sun for a brief period. This pattern of reduced, intermittent rain is anticipated to continue until next Friday.

Looking ahead, the monsoon activity may pick up again from next Thursday, potentially leading to an increase in rainfall across the country. After Friday, the overall rain amounts are also expected to rise again.
