Former Coach Allan Donald Urges Bangladesh: Do Not Settle for a Draw

Allan Donald, a well-known cricket expert and former fast-bowling coach for Bangladesh, has given important advice. He strongly asked the Bangladesh cricket team not to play for a draw in their next Test match against Australia. Donald said the team must keep using the winning plan that helped them win in Darwin.

The Bangladesh team made a big achievement in the first Test. They successfully beat Australia by nine wickets. This was Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win in Australia. It was also only their second Test victory against Australia in history.

Allan Donald, aged 59, sent his thoughts in an audio message from South Africa. He coached Bangladesh’s fast bowlers until 2023. Donald warned clearly that a strong Australian team will fight back hard. Australia wants to avoid losing the series at home. “Australia will use everything they have to try and defeat Bangladesh in the second Test,” Donald told AFP.

Donald pointed out an easy mistake in short Test series. Teams can become defensive after winning one game. Some might think a draw would be good enough. But Donald stressed that Bangladesh must “keep believing in the same blueprint.” This means playing in the same aggressive and confident way they showed in Darwin.

The former international fast bowler praised the team’s strong character. This was especially true after their low score in a warm-up match. They were bowled out for just 54 runs in that game. “After you get bowled out for 54, you feel a bit hurt,” Donald explained. “But their strong response in the Test was simply brilliant.”

Donald also praised Bangladesh’s fast-bowling attack. He spoke highly of Hasan Mahmud’s excellent form. “Hasan is in unbelievable form right now. I am very happy for him,” Donald said. He remembered seeing Hasan bowl years ago. “I thought this kid has skill. He has very good control.”

Donald showed the strength of Bangladesh’s bowling talent. He noted that Ebadot Hossain could come in and perform well when Nahid Rana was out due to injury. “When a fast bowler like Nahid Rana is out, a player like Ebadot Hossain can step in,” Donald explained. “This shows a lot about the depth of a bowling attack. It is exciting to see Bangladesh creating depth in their bowling lineup.”

The second Test match between Bangladesh and Australia is set to begin on Saturday. The game will be held in Mackay, Queensland.
