Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi on Tuesday. He conveyed Bangladesh’s desire to build a more supportive environment between the two nations. This meeting is a crucial step towards strengthening the India-Bangladesh relationship.

Mr. Trivedi’s visit to Delhi came after a series of high-level discussions in Dhaka. He met with Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Monday. He also held separate talks with Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed. These meetings covered important aspects of bilateral cooperation.

During these discussions, Bangladesh shared its message about creating a better “enabling environment.” Such an environment is vital for advancing relations between India and Bangladesh. Sources from both countries confirmed that several sensitive issues affecting their ties were also discussed.

In Delhi, High Commissioner Trivedi sought Prime Minister Modi’s guidance. He wanted to strengthen the multi-faceted and long-lasting relationship between India and Bangladesh. He emphasized a people-centric approach. The meeting at the Parliament building lasted for about one hour on Tuesday evening.

Diplomatic sources in Delhi indicated that Mr. Trivedi presented the message from Bangladesh. This message came from his recent meetings with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman, and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed in Dhaka. The Indian High Commissioner delivered this clearly to Prime Minister Modi.

Officials in Dhaka confirmed that the invitation for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s visit to Delhi was also mentioned. The Indian High Commissioner discussed this during his first courtesy meeting with Prime Minister Rahman. He noted that the Government of India is keen to welcome Prime Minister Rahman and his family.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman spoke about the importance of these efforts. He said Bangladesh places high importance on creating the necessary environment. This environment is essential for moving bilateral relations forward. He shared these views during a briefing at the Foreign Ministry.

After his meetings in Dhaka, the Indian High Commissioner spoke to journalists. He stated that maintaining good relations with Bangladesh is “especially important.” He highlighted that India’s Prime Minister has often stressed this point. Both nations aim for a future of stronger cooperation and understanding.
