Iran Warns of Escalating Chaos as US Strikes Intensify
Tensions between Iran and the United States have reached a critical point, with Tehran warning of wider regional instability if US military strikes do not cease. This stark warning follows eleven consecutive nights of American attacks, which Iran states have killed dozens of civilians and injured hundreds more.
Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Iran’s chief negotiator, delivered a strong message, stating that if Iran’s security cannot be guaranteed, then no infrastructure in the region will remain unharmed. He added that if Iran is unable to sell oil, others in the region will face similar difficulties. This statement came after US President Donald Trump threatened to bomb more Iranian power plants and bridges.
Iran’s Ministry of Health reported that US attacks since late last month have resulted in the deaths of 53 people, including three children, and injured 590 others. Both sides have been targeting civilian infrastructure, raising concerns about the impact on non-military sites.
Iran has responded to the US actions with repeated strikes against American allies in the Gulf, including Bahrain, Kuwait, and Jordan. This week, Iranian forces hit water and power plants in Kuwait. An attack on an air base in Jordan last Friday killed three US service members, and a fourth US soldier died in Iraq from a drone attack on Sunday. These deaths bring the total number of US personnel killed in the conflict to 18.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi vowed that any future aggression against Iran, including its infrastructure, would be met with a powerful and decisive response. Both the US and Iran have indicated they are no longer adhering to the interim peace agreement signed last month.
The vital Strait of Hormuz remains a flashpoint, with Iran insisting on its control. Additionally, Iran-allied Houthi rebels in Yemen have threatened the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, declaring a blockade of Saudi ports and causing several oil tankers to reroute. Trump has further escalated tensions, threatening to attack one Iranian power plant or bridge for every ship targeted in the Strait of Hormuz.
Experts note that neither side appears willing to back down, fearing it would show weakness. However, some analysts suggest Iran may be running out of regional targets to strike without causing more severe long-term damage to its standing. Mediators are working to salvage the faltering agreement, but US officials remain skeptical of Iran’s sincerity in diplomacy.
