Iran’s Supreme Leader Links US Peace to End of Israel’s Lebanon Attacks
Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei has set a clear condition for peace with the United States. He said Israel must stop its attacks against Lebanon. Khamenei shared this demand on social media platform X on Sunday.
The Iranian leader wrote that preserving Lebanon’s land and ending Israeli aggression are vital. He called this the main condition for any deal to stop the “imposed war” with the US. Khamenei also voiced strong support for the Lebanese group Hezbollah.
Hezbollah’s former leader, Hassan Nasrallah, and people in southern Lebanon also received his support. Southern Lebanon has been a main target of Israel’s attacks. Khamenei called defending Hezbollah a “strategic duty.”
Khamenei’s statement comes during reports of a pause in fighting. There is also renewed talks between Iran and the United States. Iran has always demanded an end to Israeli strikes on Lebanon. This was a condition in a deal signed by the two countries in June. However, that agreement later failed due to a disagreement about the Strait of Hormuz.
Lebanon entered the conflict in March. This happened after Hezbollah launched strikes on northern Israel. Hezbollah acted after the killing of former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Daily Israeli attacks on Lebanese land also fueled these actions. Lebanon said these attacks broke an earlier ceasefire from 2024.
On June 26, Lebanon and Israel signed another agreement. The United States helped create this deal. It said Israel would slowly leave occupied Lebanese land. But it did not give a time for this withdrawal. Instead, it said Israel would leave once Hezbollah gave up its weapons.
Both Iran and Hezbollah rejected this new agreement. The first part of the deal involved Israel leaving three “pilot zones.” However, the Lebanese army reported on Sunday that Israeli forces are blocking this. They refuse to leave the agreed areas.
As of Sunday, Israeli forces were still using bulldozers. They were also shelling and searching large areas of southern Lebanon. At least 4,329 people have died in this latest violence. Also, 37 Israeli soldiers and four Israeli civilians have been killed.
UN peacekeepers stated that Israel violated a past ceasefire more than 10,000 times. Mojtaba Khamenei is the son of the former Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. He became Supreme Leader after his father’s killing by the US and Israel. The war is now spreading to Yemen. Reports show attacks between Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia.
