This particular match carried special importance for Bangladesh cricket. It was scheduled to be Litton Das’s first game as the team’s permanent captain. He recently took on this full-time leadership role. However, a last-minute injury forced Litton Das to sit out of the game. This was an unexpected start to his captaincy tenure.
Towhid Hridoy stepped in to lead the team as the stand-in captain. He announced Litton Das’s absence at the toss. Additionally, star all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz was also unavailable. He missed the match due to a fever, further impacting the team’s initial lineup and strategy.

Najmul Hossain, a key middle-order player, was also included. Captain Towhid Hridoy anchored the middle order. Mosaddek Hossain and wicketkeeper Nurul Hasan added depth to the team’s batting power.
The bowling attack for Bangladesh included Rishad Hossain, Shoriful Islam, and Taskin Ahmed. Mustafizur Rahman, known for his accurate pace bowling, also joined the unit. All-rounder Saif Hassan completed the strong eleven players on the field. This team composition aimed to provide a balanced challenge to Zimbabwe.
This tri-nation series marks Bangladesh’s return to this format of competition. The team last played in such a series in May 2019. Afghanistan is the third team competing in this tournament.
