Minister’s Car Fined Tk 6,000 for Traffic Rule Breach
Traffic police in Dhaka have filed two cases against a car used by Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister M Rashiduzzaman Millat. The vehicle received a total fine of Tk 6,000. This action was taken for breaking traffic laws in the capital on Thursday morning.
The Minister’s car caused a traffic violation in the Kakrail area. It was later stopped in front of the Secretariat building. Traffic Sergeant Sifat Mahmud filed both cases against the vehicle.
Sergeant Sifat reported that the car broke lane rules. It also created an obstruction to normal traffic flow. A traffic police officer on duty saw the violation. This officer then stopped the car. Cases were filed in the presence of senior police officials.
Sergeant Sifat called this a very rare event. He shared his surprise that a minister’s car would face such charges. Police control room officials were told about the incident. The Special Security Force (SSF) also instructed the police to take action. The car’s driver admitted to violating the traffic laws.
Sources close to the matter said Minister Millat was inside the car at the time of the incident. Capital Standard News tried to contact the Minister for his comments. However, no response was received by phone or text message.
Each of the two cases carried a fine of Tk 3,000. One charge was for creating an obstruction to traffic movement. The other charge was for driving in an unsafe manner. The cases were filed under specific parts of the Road Transport Act, 2018.
Section 87 of the law deals with careless driving. It also covers dangerous overtaking and causing obstructions. For the Minister’s car, the obstruction was linked to the movement of the Prime Minister’s motorcade. This is a serious concern.
Section 92 of the law addresses general instructions for vehicle movement. It includes rules against driving in the wrong direction. It also stops vehicles from parking in unauthorized places. Breaking these rules can cause traffic jams.
Violations of these sections can lead to strict penalties. These penalties include up to three months in prison. There can also be a maximum fine of Tk 10,000, or both punishments. Drivers may also lose demerit points from their license. Sergeant Sifat confirmed that the driver is responsible for paying the fines.
