PM Tarique Rahman to Seek Deeper Ties, More Investment in Japan Visit
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will travel to Japan soon. The visit aims to strengthen friendship and economic links between the two countries. Bangladesh also hopes to deepen economic partnerships and attract more investment from Japan.
State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir shared these plans today, Saturday. He spoke to journalists after attending a seminar in Dhaka. The seminar was about Bangladesh-Saudi Arabia relations.
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will leave for Japan on October 26. He will stay for four days. During this visit, Bangladesh will prioritize trade, investment, and development partnerships. This approach is consistent with how Bangladesh engages with other nations.
Bangladesh wants to create reciprocal investment partnerships with countries worldwide. These partnerships will focus on clearly defined areas of cooperation. Humaiun Kobir described Japan as one of Bangladesh’s largest and oldest development partners. He said Japanese investment in several large projects has helped build strong diplomatic and investment ties.
The State Minister recalled that the Prime Minister previously attended an energy summit in Japan. This happened when Japan faced an energy crisis. That engagement helped foster trust in Bangladesh’s Prime Minister by the Japanese government. The upcoming visit will include detailed talks on sector-specific cooperation. It will also explore opportunities for mutual investment.
Regarding Saudi Arabia, Humaiun Kobir said the Saudi Crown Prince invited Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to visit the Kingdom. The Prime Minister has accepted this invitation. He will visit Saudi Arabia very soon. The Saudi Crown Prince also expressed interest in visiting Bangladesh. Dhaka will welcome him when a suitable time is mutually agreed upon.
Bangladesh has a clear and firm position on protecting the holy cities of Makkah and Madinah. Humaiun Kobir stated that Bangladesh is one of the world’s largest Muslim countries. It stands ready to provide necessary support if its cooperation is sought for initiatives to protect Muslim holy sites.
The Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and the Center for Migration Studies of North South University (NSU) jointly organized the seminar. Several important officials attended the event.
