Primary Scholarship Results Expected Sunday Amidst Leak Controversy and Official Suspension

More than 640,000 students across Bangladesh are set to learn their fate this Sunday, July 14, as the Primary Scholarship Examination results are officially published. The announcement comes after an unexpected online leak of some results earlier in the week, leading to public discussion and disciplinary action against an official.

A press conference is scheduled for Sunday afternoon at the International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka to formally release the results. A N M Ehsanul Hoque Milon, Adviser for Primary and Mass Education and Education, will be present at the event.

The results, initially slated for release on Thursday, July 11, were finalised on July 8 for the 2025 scholarship examination. Md Mehtab Kayes, an assistant maintenance officer at the Directorate of Primary Education (DPE), was tasked with creating web links for the online portal. He received clear instructions not to upload the results before the official announcement.

However, at 10:00 am on Thursday, results for nine districts under the Dhaka division were uploaded through these links. The premature release allowed members of the public to access and share the results on social media platforms, sparking widespread discussion and criticism.

Following the incident, the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education temporarily suspended Mr. Kayes. A notification issued on Friday stated his suspension was under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules due to allegations of misconduct. The DPE has also initiated an investigation committee to thoroughly examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

This year, a total of 82,500 students will be awarded scholarships. Eighty percent of these recipients are from government primary schools, while the remaining 20 percent come from non-government primary schools and kindergartens. Scholarship winners will receive financial assistance under two distinct categories: Talent Pool and General Grade.

The scholarship examination took place across the country, with separate schedules for different regions. In most areas, the exam was held from April 15 to 18. The three hill districts of Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban conducted their examinations from April 17 to 20. Over 640,000 students participated, including approximately 550,000 from government primary schools and 90,000 from non-government schools and kindergartens.

Parents and guardians will be able to check the results online via the IPEMIS (Integrated Primary Education Management Information System) portal and through SMS services immediately after the official publication on Sunday.
