Saudi Factory Fire Kills 16 Bangladeshi Workers
At least 16 Bangladeshi workers died in a tragic factory fire in Saudi Arabia on Sunday. The fire broke out at a sofa factory located in Khordam city, Riyadh. The blaze started around 3:30 PM Bangladesh time.
The Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Ministry in Bangladesh confirmed these tragic deaths. The victims were from the districts of Naogaon, Natore, and Rajshahi.
Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Ariful Haque Chowdhury expressed deep shock and sorrow. He offered his heartfelt condolences to the families who lost loved ones in this tragedy.
The Minister said the Bangladesh Embassy in Saudi Arabia is maintaining constant contact. Embassy officials are working closely with the local authorities.
Instructions were given to bring back the bodies of the deceased as quickly as possible. The government will also ensure all necessary assistance and compensation for their families. The Minister prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls. He sent his deep sympathy to the grieving families.
Mohammed Saiful Islam, the Deputy Commissioner of Naogaon, confirmed details for 10 of the victims. They were all from Atrai upazila. The workers were believed to be between 25 and 35 years old.
These Naogaon victims included Mohammad Koli, Lutfar, Zander, and Rubel from Kalikapur Union. Sagar and Majidul were from Bisha Union. Shuvo and Sumon lived in the Dubai area. Jalal was from Parkasunda village, and Md Farid Sheikh was from Udonpai village.
From Natore, three victims were identified by Al Amnan Khan, Upazila Nirbahi Officer of Naldanga. They were Sabbir Hossain Shuvo, Shamim Hossain, and Rabiul Awal Hrido. All three lived in different villages within Khajura Union.
