Student Removes Jinnah Photos from DU Museum, Sparks Political Debate

A student today removed three photographs of Muhammad Ali Jinnah from the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) museum. Student Abu Taiyab Habildar took down the images on Monday. He said Jinnah spoke against the Bengali mother tongue. Habildar also noted that Jinnah ordered the arrest of Dhaka University students in 1948.

Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar commented on the incident. He said only people blinded by political views could act this way. Mr. Porwar added that those who do not understand Bangladesh’s history lack true knowledge. He believes these people do not know who contributed to the country’s independence.

Mr. Porwar said all patriotic citizens supported the movement Jinnah led. He stressed that people need to understand this history. Political immaturity can lead to actions that raise public questions, he explained.

Mia Golam Porwar also spoke about the Opposition’s Long March. He claimed that some government officials felt jealous of its peaceful nature. The government expected violence, sabotage, and vandalism, he said. They made statements to cause trouble during the march. However, the Opposition will not fall for such provocations, he added.

The Jamaat leader stated that a Long March would not be necessary if the government met the Opposition’s demands. He called the Long March a recognized political program in Bangladesh. Mr. Porwar recalled that Jamaat had joined similar marches in the past.

Mia Golam Porwar criticized a statement from the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister suggested the government would hold a Long March if it solved problems. Mr. Porwar said such words do not fit the Prime Minister’s position. He assured that the Opposition’s Long March to Rangpur would remain peaceful. He asked for cooperation from the government, police, and other groups to ensure a calm event.

Mia Golam Porwar made these remarks at a Sirat-un-Nabi conference. The National Doctors Forum, Dhaka City South, organized the event. It took place this afternoon at the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB) auditorium in Kakrail, Dhaka.
