Tourist Dies in Cox’s Bazar Hotel Pool, Heart Attack Suspected
A family trip to Cox’s Bazar ended in tragedy yesterday. A 38-year-old tourist from Munshiganj died after entering a swimming pool. The incident happened at a five-star hotel on Inani Beach in Ukhiya.
Miraj Ahmed, the deceased tourist, was visiting Cox’s Bazar with his wife and children. They arrived on Monday for a two-day holiday. The family checked into the Baywatch Hotel on Inani Beach.
Yesterday afternoon, around 3:00 PM, Mr. Ahmed went into the swimming pool. His family members were also in the pool. Witnesses reported that he became unconscious shortly after entering the water.
Hotel staff quickly rescued Mr. Ahmed from the pool. They took him to Cox’s Bazar Sadar Hospital. Doctors there examined him but declared him dead.
Police believe a heart attack caused Mr. Ahmed’s death. Md Atikur Rahman Majumder is the officer-in-charge of Ukhiya Police Station. He said Mr. Ahmed suffered cardiac arrest while swimming.
Police spoke with Mr. Ahmed’s family members. They learned that he had a history of heart disease. An unnatural death case has been filed at Ukhiya Police Station.
The family applied to the police to avoid an autopsy. Following their request, the body was handed over to them today. Mr. Ahmed’s family will now take him back to Munshiganj.
