Two Dhaka Colleges Clash Again, Disrupting City Traffic
Students from Dhaka College and Ideal College clashed once more today in the capital. The fight stopped traffic movement near the Science Lab intersection. This incident happened around 12:15 PM at the southern end of Green Road. The street remained disrupted for some time, affecting public transport.
Police quickly arrived and brought the situation under control. Shawkat Ali is an Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police. He described the incident as minor. Mr. Ali said nothing serious took place. He mentioned that Dhaka College students moved towards Ideal College, causing some tension. Police and teachers then worked together to calm things down.
A Dhaka College student, who did not want their name used, said their bus was attacked first. They claimed Ideal College students threw bricks at their bus. This happened around 11:30 AM near Labaid Hospital. The student said the bricks broke the bus windows. They also reported three Dhaka College students were hurt in a later attack.
An Ideal College student, also wishing to remain unnamed, gave a different account. They said Dhaka College students attacked them without cause. This student claimed more than five Ideal College students were injured in the attack.
Md Ali, a rickshaw puller on Green Road, saw the clash. He said students from both colleges ran after each other. This happened around noon near the Green Road entrance. Police then arrived and restored order.
Clashes between these two colleges are not uncommon. They fought at least 15 times last year. On November 9 last year, they made a peace agreement. Police from New Market police station helped arrange this. The agreement aimed to prevent further fights in the Science Lab area.
