White House Cheers for England: Trump’s Team After US World Cup Exit
After the United States national football team was eliminated from the World Cup, attention from the White House has quickly turned to another contender. Andrew Giuliani, President Donald Trump’s special representative for the tournament, has openly expressed hope for an English victory, calling it ‘fantastic’ if they were to claim the trophy.
England has not won the World Cup since 1966, marking a 58-year wait for the prestigious title. Giuliani, who leads the White House’s World Cup Task Force, acknowledged this long drought. He believes this year could be different, stating England is among the top teams remaining and that a win would be a ‘beautiful victory’ for them. He confidently added that England ‘can go all the way’.
President Trump himself maintains a keen interest in football and particularly in the English side. He recently praised England’s captain, Harry Kane, on Truth Social, describing him as a ‘great player and an outstanding person.’ Trump has been following Kane’s performances closely. His passion for the sport has grown significantly over the years, influenced in part by his son, Barron, who is also a fan. Trump has even played golf with football stars such as Kane and former England captain Wayne Rooney.
Kane’s performance has been central to England’s success, with him leading the tournament’s scoring with six goals. Giuliani highlighted Kane as a primary reason England could win the tournament, commending him and Jude Bellingham as exceptional athletes. He also noted England as an ‘exceedingly well-balanced team’ and urged their coach to instill confidence in their winning potential.
Despite the high hopes from Washington, England faces a tough road ahead. Their next match is a crucial semi-final against the defending champions, Argentina, to be played in Atlanta.
