Education Minister Opens Door to Retaking Key Higher Secondary Exams

Thousands of students may get a second chance to sit for their Higher Secondary examinations in Physics, Accounting, and Logic. Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon announced today that arrangements could be made for retakes of these crucial exams.

The minister’s statement came during a parliamentary session, where he addressed ongoing concerns from students and a Member of Parliament. This development marks a shift from his earlier stance on the matter.

The issue was brought forward by Jamaat-e-Islami Member of Parliament Shafiqul Islam during a question-and-answer session. Later, during a debate on a bill, Mr. Islam highlighted the urgency of the situation. He mentioned that students were protesting near the parliament, calling for their demands to be met or for discussions to resolve their issues.

In response, Education Minister Milon acknowledged the difficulties students faced. He noted that exams for Physics, Accounting, and Logic were held yesterday during heavy rain. Many students were drenched, and there were complaints that some could not complete their exams properly. Despite continuous monitoring, student demands for retakes have been significant.

The minister pointed out that due to recent floods, all exams in the Chittagong Board have already been canceled and will need to be retaken. He indicated that the possibility of retaking Physics first paper, Accounting, and Logic exams for other students would be considered when arranging the retakes for the Chittagong Board.

Minister Milon also took the opportunity to address previous comments he had made, which had drawn objections from many. He expressed regret, stating that his remarks were not made with any hidden intentions and apologized if anyone had been hurt by his words.
