Heroic Batting by Tanzid Hasan Seals T20 Series Win for Bangladesh
Bangladesh secured a significant four-wicket victory against Zimbabwe on Sunday, clinching the three-match Twenty20 series 2-1. Opener Tanzid Hasan delivered a crucial unbeaten 66 runs in the decisive match held in Bulawayo. This win at Queens Sports Club brought much-needed relief for Bangladesh. The team had faced a challenging tour, including an innings defeat in their Test match and a 2-1 loss in the One-Day International series.
Zimbabwe batted first after winning the toss, posting a total of 143 runs for seven wickets. Dion Myers was the standout batter, contributing 73 runs, while Brian Bennett added 47. No other batter managed to reach double figures for the home side.
Chasing 144 runs for victory, Bangladesh reached their target with just two balls to spare. Tanzid Hasan anchored the innings masterfully. His 58-ball knock included four sixes and one four, marking his 13th T20 half-century. He received valuable support from Parvez Hossain Emon and captain Towhid Hridoy, who each scored 24 runs before being dismissed by veteran off-spinner Sikandar Raza.
Tanzid Hasan, who earned both player of the match and series awards, credited his disciplined approach. “My aim was not to hit too hard. Instead, I watched the ball closely and played it on its merits,” he explained.
Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza admitted his team might have fallen short. “I felt our score was about 10 runs too low to win the match and the series,” Raza commented. He also believed their fielding could have been stronger.
Myers’ impressive innings for Zimbabwe ended when he was run out for 73. Batting at number three, he hit two sixes and seven fours before attempting a second run, a decision that proved costly. Bangladesh’s Rishad Hossain made a swift throw to wicket-keeper Emon, ending Myers’ stay at the crease. After an early loss of opener Saif Hassan for four runs, Tanzid Hasan took charge to guide Bangladesh to a memorable series win.
